The Chainlink

Hope some one out here can help me figure this out as the upcoming Folks On Spokes Easter Ride is trying to implement the use of adding TCX files for uploading to Garmin devices as riders requests.

I don't have one of these devices as I know where I'm going but just don't understand the process of accessing these files prior to day of the ride so riders have these already on the device of choice.

Right now I'm using Ride With GPS to create the TCX files and have asked the club for help to test our rides route prior to the day of the ride yet none of my testers have gotten back to me either saying they could upload these files and or the they did and they work.

SO could some kind soul please help me learn this new to me process.

We will be having 4 almost all new road routes that each will have its own separate TCX file, this part I get just don't get the rest of the process

Thanks for that info but still am looking for where the riders get this info from
Do we link the file to the clubs website
Then riders retrieve it there? Do they or can they access it from some source day of the ride as I'm not sure once riders signup and go look back at the website later on.
Are these files uploaded to the device wirelessly?
I don't know so am asking the questions of the normal process of getting the file the day of the ride.
This sounds like a good question to ask on RWGPS forums

Also, if you have registered as a Club on RWGPS there is dedicated support .

Thanks for the help

If I understand your question correctly, I think the best option is to publish (via email, web page, physical mail, carrier pigeon, etc.) the URL of the RideWithGPS page of the route that you created.  Ensure that it has public access so other people can view the route.  They can then navigate to that web page with their browser and export the route in their desired format (e.g.: TCX, GPX track).  This will download the route as a file to their local machine.  They can then upload the file to their GPS device and use it for navigation.  Here is an example from the Cascade Bicycle Club. Alternately, you could export the route yourself and then place the generated file on a public website for people to download (and then upload to their GPS), but you should then export all file types to accommodate different types of GPS navigators.  My Garmin GPS, for example, cannot use TCX files.

After discussing with the ride organizers it sounds like this will not be happening.

No way to inform riders that these files will be available after they were to sign up with active dot com there is no way to know if they would ever come back and look at the clubs website for more info. I know I would sign up then never go back to any website for further ride info.

No real way to have these files available the day of the ride either, then even if they were, how would the rider access them to put on their device.

Then even if this were to happen trying to prod the webmaster to put these on the site and even mentions of scab riders getting a hold of these and not paying to do the ride.

A few riders in the past were looking for this for the devices but no real way to get the files to them in a timely manner.

Not everybody uses these, I know I would never buy one but just trying to accomadate those that do so they have something telling them which way to go.
