The Chainlink

I was near the Damen blue line station having some dinner this evening and when I came out the restaurant a young woman was standing by her Schwinn with the front wheel off inspecting a flat tire. I went over to see if she needed a tube or a tow to Rapid Transit. I asked to check out the flat and when I went to remove the tire from the rim to see about patching the tube I saw that in fact there was no tube.

A thief had deflated her tube and stole it right out from inside her tire. Sometimes you've just got to laugh to keep from crying.

Amazing.  An "ethical" thief who only took what he absolutely needed at the time and left the rest behind?  Kind of like a guy who siphons five gallons of gasoline out of his next door neighbor's car so he can get to work...

You laugh -it was a Campagnolo tube...

My bike only cost $30 but my tube is priceless

I might steal your diamonds -but I'll bring you back some gold...

Hey, I'm no angel.

If she leaves the bike there the tube might be returned tomorrow.

Hopefully, two tubes will be left, one for interest on the loan.

Why didn't the ethical thief leave the holed tube?  At least then the person could have patched it.
