Here's the CSBR listing: http://chicago.stolenbike.org/node/193052
Hello Chainlink. I have yet another misfortune in the biking world. My custom made bike was stolen from Wicker Park yesterday. The bike is very distinctive because all parts are different companies along with some stickers that were on the bike. **On the front of the frame where the headset goes is a sticker that says "My friend died because someone opened the door" and along the seat tube down to the cranks is spelled out "TECHNICS" in gold/black font**. I had the bike for one day. I do not have a description of the criminal but I can say that he is a teenager around 16-18 and latino. I have already filed a Registry report but I realize my chances are slim. I have filed a police report for the sake of filing one because I know they wont find it. With your help I maybe will, keep your eyes open, download the picture, make it your homepage (jk), anything to help! Much appreciated!
-the bike was last seen in Lincoln Square [ Lawrence and Clark ] and around Amundsen High School. Actually, I think the kid who stole my bike goes to the school.

There's really no-one to call at Swap-O-Rama; the management would love it if all stolen bicycle victims dropped dead tomorrow. Your best bet is to post the most descriptive possible Registry entry and hope someone comes across it and gets in touch. Personally I think the chances of it ending up at SoR are slim considering how and where it was stolen. I think it's much more likely to be sold on the street around WP, and second most likely is to pop up on craigslist.
Right now your listing says "Pike"-- is there something else we could put there so that someone who sees it might be able to connect your bike to the listing a little better?
Permalink Reply by Vitaliy on July 30, 2012 at 11:33pm Do you mean be more descriptive with the title? I was told the frame was pike, but I guess I should have been clearer. Like Black and Gold Pike fixed gear
Permalink Reply by h' 1.0 on July 31, 2012 at 12:48pm OK, the listing now reads "Black and Gold fixed gear, "Technics" sticker, Pike brand not readily visible"-- is this accurate? Just tryingto give someone a chance of identifying it with a search.
Please consider not offering a reward-- many of us believe that doing so ultimately supports bike thievery by rewarding thieves and those who help them by buying or fencing their wares.
Permalink Reply by Vitaliy on July 31, 2012 at 7:50pm That is accurate! Thank you. I read a few forum topics and I am aware of the award situation that it promotes thieves to steal. I just wasnt thinking about that whilst writing this topic. I mainly posted it so that it would receive more attention, I know for a fact that no one will find and seize the actual bike and call for a reward.
Permalink Reply by Vitaliy on July 31, 2012 at 7:56pm I received an email from a gentleman who told me he saw "A shorter portly latin kid was riding it with two others on mountain bikes" and "As well as the kid struggling to get his foot into the cages." He saw this the same night my bike was stolen. He gave me an intersection where he saw this punk. The coordinates hint at the Lincoln Park area, so my hunch was slightly on the right side.

Permalink Reply by h' 1.0 on August 1, 2012 at 11:49am Just to clarify-- you're saying it was sighted near Lawrence and Clark, or in the Lincoln Park area?
Also-- did you post to chifg.com?
How did the person who contacted you find your e-mail?
Here's the CSBR listing if anyone reading here needs to contact the OP:
Permalink Reply by h' 1.0 on August 1, 2012 at 11:52am Also, I'd be careful about putting too many eggs in the Lawrence and Clark basket. We've had a handful of contacts over the years from victims that got tired of getting reports of bike sightings that turned out to not be their bike... my feeling is also that your bike would not have been likely to travel that far given the nature and location of the theft, but I could certainly be wrong.
Permalink Reply by Vitaliy on August 1, 2012 at 12:19pm At first my hunch was that the thief might have been from Lincoln Park. This later provided to be slightly correct, because I got an email from a tipper who said he saw a portly latino kid riding the bike west bound on lawrence and clark. I did not post to chifg.com yet, but I will in a few minutes. My friend posted an ad on craigslist. The title said the the bike is for sale but when the user clicks onto the ad is describes that the bike is actually stolen and not for sale. So I received an email from a tipper who described what he saw with his eyes and that he was sure that that was the bike.
