Stolen Bikes Recovered with Help of Heritage Bicycles and CPD

Sure seems a lot of these thefts are by the young ones. Shout out to Heritage and CPD.

From the Trib.....

"Bike mechanics at Heritage Bicycles used fast Facebook sleuthing to help reunite a stolen bike with its owner Monday evening, Chicago police officials said.

Bike theft is common in the city—though exactly how common is hard to quantify—and stolen bikes are rarely recovered and returned to their owners, according to Lt. David Harris, a spokesperson for Chicago Police Department's news affairs.

That wasn't the case Monday evening, when police officers from the 24th District caught two juveniles in the act of trying to resell a stolen bike in a makeshift sting operation facilitated by friends of Heritage Bicycles, a custom bike shop in Lakeview"

I follow that group just to see what pops up, King Meta was the guys Facebook name that got pinched. Good too, guy was a class A d-bag.

Cheers! Thanks for aiding in a recovery and being all around good people!

The mechanic's last name is Fietz? That is the most appropriate name for a bike mechanic I have ever heard.

Score one for the good guys!

Don't steal bikes, bro.

I read and heard a lot of lousy news today- conflict in Gaza, children mistreated by border agents, bodies still in a field in the Ukraine etc. Then I read the story about Ben Fietz bike mechanic and stolen bike sleuth and it made my day.

Damn good work and damn good PR.  It doesn't get any better than this.

It always makes my day to hear positive news like that bike recovery story.

Ben is a great guy.

I met him when he was involved with a union protecting bicycle messengers. We sat down for a beer and talked about the issues they face. I did not know that he is now a mechanic. Next time, the beer is on me!

I had to block posts, or I post random crap to throw them all off. All the derelicts of the bike thieving world are on there.
