The Chainlink

I am thinking about putting a ride together down to Skydive Chicago. It will be the weekend of May 21-22. They have a campground at their facility that will be free to use. This is also the first ride I'm planning, any info/advice will be greatly appreciated.

Does that mean you're jumping out of a plane? Or just a nice bike ride to watch daring folks jumpimg out of planes?
I will be jumping myself, I have experience with several jumps already. Anyone is welcome to join, wether your interested in jumping or just coming out to watch others.
Sounds fun. I could see a bike ride there and then hanging around and watching. No jump for me! Are you at the point of a planned route yet. Any SAG support?
I am very interested. that is on my bucket list ;-)

hmm, this sounds very interesting, I might consider using a metra sling shot from joliet :)

I have decided on taking the Metra as a group to Joliet. They allow I believe 5 bikes per car, which should be sufficient I believe. I don't think too many people would want to go. From there we will ride along the I&M Canal which will be a 54 mile ride.

Great idea.  I need to get racks and panniers for my Trucker before the end of May.

Has anyone see any restrictions on putting loaded bikes into Metra?  They might be a little pissy about that.

I have been wanting to jump for a couple years now, but I don't think I can ride down there. I might drive down that weekend and maybe put the trunk rack on my car in case someone decides to bail on the ride back.
I love this idea, though I'll be in Alaska when you go.  I'm looking forward to seeing pictures!
I've done it previously, having an assembly line when the train shows up makes it easier (one person hand bikes/gear up onto the train another on the train taking the bikes and gear)

Jason,

Are you thinking self-contained or would we be relying on restaurants for meals?

They do have a lounge on site for meals and a full service bar, there is also a 24 hour diner that would be a 5 minute ride from the site.
