Road Cycling near Ely Nevada

Here's the story. I'll be spending a week in Ely Nevada, (on US 50, the loneliest road in the world). There seem to be lots of mountain biking opportunities, which I will take advantage of, but, how's the road cycling ? Roads good with wide shoulders ? The town has a little over 4,000 population, and Google turned up ONE bicycle oriented business, a sporting goods store that specialized in hunting, that has since gone under. Any help out there ?
