A car fatally struck a bicyclist riding in the Garfield Ridge neighborhood on the West Side early Sunday, according to police.

About 12:45 a.m., the 44-year-old man was riding his bicycle eastbound on 55th Street when a 2011 Chevrolet Impala turning onto Central Avenue struck him, police said.

The bicyclist was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s office could not immediately confirm the fatality.

The 37-year-old female driver is in custody, and no charges had been filed as of early Sunday, according to police.

Bicyclist, 44, killed near Midway Airport

A 44-year-old bicyclist was killed overnight near Chicago Midway International Airport, according to authorities.

He was traveling east on 55th Street when a car turned left onto Central Avenue about 12:45 a.m., striking the bicyclist, police said.

The 44-year-old, whio has not yet been officially identified, was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center and later pronounced dead from his injuries.

The driver of the car that struck him is in custody, police said, and charges are pending.

The police department's Major Accidents Investigations Unit is investigating.

Has anyone seen an update on this?  Cyclist's name?

The cyclist who lost his life was Gary Reyes of Park Forest.
