The Chainlink

Apparently the "Occupy Wall St" movement has spread.

Anyone want to ride/stop by Willis Tower tomorrow night? Who knows... this just may be history in the making.

Man, I'm itchy for some change. Would be nice if the movement had a couple cohesive messages; some actual solid demands. I suppose "change is really necessary" is okay for now.

And from the looks of it, the crowd could probably really need that good ol' CCM energy. Well, without the part where we wreck stuff. Not that part. I mean the jovial part. It's a PEACEFUL protest :)

Many of the Occupy Wall Street demands dovetail with ones of Move to Amend, the Logan Square chapter of the Green Party hosted them a few months ago.  People interested in the nuts-and-bolts changes being proposed to the constitution can learn more here:

Maybe I'm ignorant as to what exactly the Occupy groups are doing, but as far as I see, all they seem to be doing is walking around and complaining.  I definitely agree with their complaint, and would want to help with making a change..especially since I was raised at the extreme bottom of the financial food chain, due to corporations destroying the city I grew up in, in Michigan.  I just don't think a protest is the right approach.  Most protesters are just all voice and no action, so it just becomes an annoyance to others, which is a bummer.
Care to wager why they aren't paying anything?  Half are households are making less than $20k a year.  Another big group are the elderly (a.k.a. retired and not earning incomes).  Then there are the unemployed,  Of course, even those who are working but not paying federal income taxes are still paying federal payroll taxes.

"People without jobs have plenty of time to protest government-funded million-dollar bonuses for white collar criminals, courtesy of the working-class taxpayer (the only kind of American receiving zero government support at the moment)."

... are the working-class taxpayers part of the 45% of American households who don't pay Federal income tax because of targeted tax deductions and other subsidies? (Ref:http://money.cnn.com/2011/04/14/pf/taxes/who_pays_income_taxes/inde... ) Or does the working-class taxpayer include the students who, each year, receive taxpayer subsidized loans and grants to the tune of approximately $80 billion? Do working class tax payers work for one of the companies that received billions in SBA-subsidized loans and grants last year?

I personally feel that while it appears that they're just walking around and complaining a lot, they're doing something very, very important: stimulating conversation.

Today at lunch looked like dwindled down to about a dozen?  Did they move locations?

I created a Chainlink event and a Facebook event. I can link to the Chainlink, but can't get to Facebook from here at work ;)

But I linked to them both, here in this OccupyChicago forum: http://occupychi.org/forum/outreach/not-a-carpool-but-a-bike-pool-s...

Erin&Me can't do Sunday but we're gonna' bike over from Oak Park, late morning tomorrow.  If there's anybody who wants to come with us, just contact me through globalguy at gmail. Also, check out this great Op-Ed piece in today's NYTimes by Mr. Krugman, "Confronting the Malefactors".
