Thanks for the heads up.

Permalink Reply by James BlackHeron on August 2, 2012 at 2:23pm Some of the sections slated for new striping probably should be repaved -especially the parts that split & run nearer to the channel rather than the part that runs along the road. Usually peds tend to stick close to the road so I'd prefer to ride where they are not -but the pavement has some serious ripples in it here and there that can be quite unpleasant at higher speeds.
Also, they need to trim some of the low branches over the path. I got forced into one by one particularly clueless jogger who just didn't care the other day and got a real face-whipping from a Willow as reward for not running the shambling zombie over.
Still, its a really nice trail. I'm not complaining too much. But while they are fixing it up they should fix it up...
Permalink Reply by Mark on August 2, 2012 at 3:17pm It would be nice if they utilized the nearly double-tracked paths to paint one path for bikes and the other path for walkers/runners. I find it a bit confusing with the current striping.
Permalink Reply by Richard on August 2, 2012 at 3:30pm I'm just happy I have foreknowledge of this work. Someone in Skokie needs to be commended for putting this information out early.
Permalink Reply by James BlackHeron on August 2, 2012 at 3:37pm The many intersections and confusing path-crossings can be dicey at times -especially if there are other faster-moving bikes slicing through them.
While they are at it I wish they would put a bike-path bypass at the road past those French Garden paths further north. Some of those are really bad with the blind hedges. I always ding my bell like mad as I go through there and crawl my bike very slowly at 4-5MPH, but I've seen some folks blast through there at 16-18MPH blindly. Hate to meet someone like that going the other way.

It was likely the work of someone at the Skokie Park District. I doubt that it's a very big office. A letter sent to the district's general address would probably find its way to the right person.
