Downed Tree North Channel Trail Across from Dominicks
I passed a downed tree on North Channel Trail this morning. It's across from the Dominicks in Lincolnwood, north of Devon and south of the construction. Use caution.

Can the parks dept move the downed tree off the path just past Dearborn in Lincoln Park? It's been over a week.

A couple of other warnings about this same stretch of trail- one temporary and one permanent
1-there is a construction project on that same segment and the trail is closed north of the downed tree up to Touhy for about 1/4 mile. I have ridden on McCormick which is dicey for bikes and have seen bikers on the west side of the street on the sidewalk. This ought to resolve soon. I do not know the timetable.
2- there is now a disc golf course in that same area between roughly Pratt and Devon. As a disc golfer I am thrilled. However, the course is not well conceived and bike riders are at risk of being hit by flying discs. There has been discussion about this in the disc golf community. http://discontinuum.org/index.php?option=com_smf&Itemid=26&...
Experienced players will look out for riders and walkers but an errant shot can still happen. I am convinced some kid will not look and nail a bike rider one of these days. Keep your eyes open.
I saw that same tree on the groun on Wedensday when I had ridden to and played the course.

Is this behind the history museum somewhere between Dearborn and the tunnel under LaSalle Dr.? Give me as much detail as you can about the location, and I'll put in a request, too.

As much as that association makes me laugh when I see a course, I'm not looking forward to sharing the path with frolfers.

It's got to be north of Pratt. I was just there this morning and didn't see it between Pratt & Devon.
Besides, with the construction detour making cyclists cross to the west side then back to the trail, that area has been a pain for the last month at least. No idea who's actually responsible there, but I'm betting it's either Lincolnwood or Skokie. Do either of them use 311?

That's exactly where it is. I called it in this morning. I'll be commuting home past there today, so I'll update later if it's still there.

Its between Pratt and Devon. I have played the course. I know the area well. The baskets have yellow rims and are easy to see. http://www.dgcoursereview.com/course.php?id=5640
Take another look next time you ride by. There is a sculpture with a bunch or road signs. The course starts just to the south of that and plays south towards Devon. It starts near the Dominicks and Grossinger Auto. This was a Village of Lincolnwood project. They had a grant to make improvments to the area and it included the course. I still think the course will present danger for walkers, bikers and for drivers on McCormick Blvd.

I reported it to my park district contact. Hopefully it won't be there much longer.

I guess i'll continue to take the Kedzie bypass between Lincoln and Touhy even AFTER it is open again. Disc golf on the same stretch as a trail? What genius thought THAT was a good idea?

Sounds like a safety net would be a good idea - just like it would be to protect cyclists from errant volleyballs at North Ave. beach.
