New Bicycle Museum

I was riding in & around Three Oaks MI last weekend & came upon this new bicycle museum being built by the Three Oaks Spokes bike club. My guess is that they are going to try & have it open in time for the Apple Cider Century Sept 30th. That's my 1977 Raleigh Professional in front.

I think this will be the third location for the museum.   It was located in the Michigan Central depot until 2005, then inside the Dewey Cannon Trading Co.

I remember the one that was in Chicago off of Illinois Ave. a bunch of years back. I remember someone told me it was "never open because the curators were always out riding the bikes". Thus, it was never open...

I was there about 3 weeks ago and it wasn't open.  If I remember correctly from The Apple Cider they don't let you walk around in there with your cleats on.  Anyone else remember?

When I was at the Tour de Shore a couple of months ago they didn't say anything to me when I walked around in their  store where the museum bikes are (were?) with my MTB SPD's & eggbeater cleats -although those don't touch down like road cleats and make a clicky sound. 

I almost bought one of those robotic sleeping cats they had on porch outside -I didn't have any room for it in my pannier.  Whew!

Hello, let me clear the air on the Bike Museum. This is it's original location pictured above. It moved over 17 years to the Train Depot and now is in the Dewey Canon Trading Company next to Dewey Canon Park in Three Oaks. The building pictured above recently changed owners and took down the previous sign and uncovered the old Bike Museum sign. They are currently trying to transfer the sign over to the new location, so hopefully there will be no confusion at the Apple Cider Century this year!! Everyone is going this year, right?

Somebody needs to hold up a big "Chicago" sign at registration so we can all say hi or at least hi-fives!

I really wanted to do the Apple Cider this year but I had an unavoidable conflict on that date.  At least I am doing the Evanston Northshore Century though.  

When we rode out of town after the 3 Oaks SAG stop at the TdS I noticed the Bicycle Museum sign and thought at first that it might be the home of the new museum too, having just visited the obviously temporary museum.  But apparently it was just the old site.  So the old sign has been uncovered for a few months it seems. 

The vintage bikes at the store were pretty darn neat but quite crowded and it was hard to really get a good look at them as they were so shoehorned together to have them all fit in the space.   A larger, dedicated, museum would be awesome -but I wonder if it will continue to be free.  TANSTAAFL.  Maybe if there is a charge it will be included in the major rides like the TdS and the Apple Cider.  

I can't wait to see this new Museum open as I will definitely be going to the TdS again next year and the Apple Cider too.
