Nearly 6 Acres of New Green Space Coming Soon to Lakefront

Called simply the Fullerton Revetment project, the city says that the project will create new green space and protect the existing land from flooding and erosion as well as improve congestion on the popular Chicago Lakefront Trail, which bottlenecks at the theater.

The price looked a bit steep - and maybe it still is - but it does include renovation of the theater, which basically means building a new one inside the shell that's there now.  I think it used to be a children's sanatorium.

Not to mention hauling in thousands of loads of dirt to create the new land.

Based on the presentation last year, the fill will be delivered by barge, but construction equipment will churn up the entire area and make it useless even if there aren't going to be fences all over the place.

I'm most worried about the detour that will be needed for the trail.  If it's not paved it will be a useless mudbog, and if it is paved it needs to be kept clean or it will be a useless mudbog.  See the current winter detour path through that area, but imagine it like that for a solid year and a half.

Yep, seems likely that it will be a real mess for a while.

Could they start by putting some damn lights behind the theatre on the current path. That place is dark as heck at night

Holy crap is it ever dark. I once almost ran into the fence when the path got diverted left. I kept going straight and my kid was on a tag-along and she yelled and got my attention.

I do that almost every time I pass there even with a light on.

Agreed.

There are a few blacked out sections of the trail north of downtown.  After a few years of blinkers and AAA powered lights I finally gave up and bought a big light with separate battery pack that puts out a usable beam that I can use for a week or two before recharging.  Totally worth it.
