Looking for must-have winter bike tips for new commuters/college students

Hey everybody,

As a kind of Part 2 to my original discussion post asking for college students who bike year-round, I was hoping you would all help me out with some suggestions for new winter bike commuters - especially if you can offer some advice with a college angle to it or talk about what you learned when biked to campus in the colder, slushier, icier (just writing these adjectives is depressing me) months.

I know this has been covered in past posts, but I'm hoping the college angle will add something new to the discussion because I'm writing an article specifically about college cyclists.

Also, as someone who is tentatively looking into winter bike commuting for the first real time I'm especially interested into your top five layering necessities - and also where you store all that extra STUFF after you get to school (or work).

Anything about why you enjoy biking in the winter would be great too.

thanks!

Erin
