Lake Shore accident on Thanksgiving Day

Someone I know, though not terribly well, had a severe bicycle crash on the lake shore path on Thanksgiving Day, resulting in a brain hemorrhage; he's still in the hospital. Apparently he crashed into a wall and got hit on his forehead below his helmet. He's a regular and experienced cyclist, and I know he wasn't doing anything foolhardy. Being a regular user of the same route, I'm wondering what happened, but haven't been able to find any information online. Has anyone else encountered or heard of this accident?

No, but that's scary. I rode the entire path Thanksgiving Day, from Hollywood Beach to South Shore Golf Course and back. I didn't see anything out of the ordinary, though there were a lot of tourists walking around between Grant Park and North Ave.
