The Chainlink

According to Alderman Reilly, it is going to be relocated to Grand Ave. because of the impact that the Wolf Point development will have on traffic.  Hopefully it will connect all the way to Milwaukee Ave.  Source:  bitly.com/VN8x9p

Do you have a link or somewhere I can read more about this?

It's there in the post... bitly.com/VN8x9p

I hope it and all "protected" bike lanes go away forever. :)

There wasn't a link at first. I know because I refreshed the page a few times to see whether someone else was going to say the obvious thing first.

I guess not, so WTF? Are the other wards with PBLs now going to follow suit every time there's a new development, citing the Kinzie "relocation" (just like the Wells "detour"?) as a precedent?

Disappointing news.  Got a feeling that Wolf Point development will turn the surrounding area into a real traffic nightmare.  I hope I'm wrong about that.

I interpreted the first two bullet points to mean that these applied during construction period, not permanently, but I could be wrong.

  • Relocation of the Kinzie Bike Lane to Grand Avenue when construction begins
  • Eliminating all car and parking access from Kinzie Street - for all phases, immediately reducing traffic volumes on Kinzie with the start of construction
I read the Alderman's memo. Is this a temporary move during construction or permanent move? I couldn't tell.

Ha, jinx.

Good question.  I REALLY hope it's temporary.

Ha! just don't buy me a coke, too much high fructose corn syrup. An Honest Tea would be nice :-)

But seriously, this BETTER be temporary or we are going to have to call out Mayor Emanuel on his grand bike-friendly plan. Isn't Kinzie the poster-child PBL?

like is not already a traffic nightmare?

I was on the Greenline this AM heading west and looked at Wolf Point wondering when it was going to be developed... bam theres my answer Thanks Chainlink!

This. Is. Inane.  What, the plans for this development weren't known when they were installing the lane?  And the alderman wasn't in on it?

Even if it is temporary, what a waste of money to put it in and then move it.  Love to hear Gabe Klein's take on this.  Ethan, is this the first that Active Trans has heard of this?
