"
In response to previously reported bicycle
thefts, UIC Police were
conducting surveillance of the bicycle racks of
the Student Recreation
Facility at 737 S. Halsted. During one of these
previous thefts,
surveillance cameras had captured the image of a
suspect taking a
bicycle and leaving the bicycle he rode to the
scene locked to the rack.
During the ongoing surveillance, on the
afternoon of January 9 UIC
Police observed a suspect matching the
description of the offender
approach the rack and unlock the bicycle that
was left behind during the
earlier theft. The suspect was arrested and
found to be carrying
burglary tools. He has been charged with felony
theft of the student’s
bicycle, felony possession of burglary tools,
and obstruction of
identification.

Permalink Reply by James BlackHeron on January 13, 2012 at 8:24am It's hard to operate a bolt-cutter or even an angle-grinder with one hand cut off.
If that still doesn't work then cut off the other one.

If you have a moment to spare, leave a comment as a concerned citizen on these web news pages. It might be nice for some of us to heap a little praise toward the Wilmette Police for taking this seriously enough to stake out, and the state's attorney for bothering to prosecute bike theft (for a change!).
