It started with a flat tire.....

I had a few errands to run and it being such a nice day I decided to take out my vintage Schwinn Typhoon. Unfortunately it had a flat which ain't a big deal so I fixed it. As I was bringing it up from the basement I noticed a squeek in the headset. Hmmmm. Not a big deal on such a simple bike so I took it apart & greased it. As I was doing that I realized that the bottom bracket probably could use some work & the bike was in the stand so what the hell, I'll repack it.

So here I am with a rebuilt bike still having those errands to do. Just the way it goes sometimes. It is all good.

Maybe, subconciously this is what you wanted to do and it is what got you out of those other errands for awhile. hahaha

Haha!  I know how this goes all too well.

A little while back, I broke the chain on my commuter bike. When I finally got home to inspect my bike, I noticed that my chain ring teeth were SEVERLY worn down and almost knife-like due to major wear and neglect. (I'm the second owner of the bike and the chain ring is covered on both sides with a plastic chain guard, so I never saw how bad the ring was!)

Long story short, instead of just buying a new chain and replacing the chain ring, the upgrade/modding switch was flipped on in my brain and I have since purchased the following items (not all installed yet):

- New chain

- New upgraded higher tooth count chain ring

- New upgraded rims, spokes, hubs, tubes and tires

- New lightweight handle bar

- New grips

- New brake lines

- New upgraded V brakes and brake bosses

- New upgraded jockey wheels

- New saddle

- New stem

SO... because of all this.. I will likely NOT be on a bike for the Bike to Work rally tomorrow morning!!!  d'oh!

Last week a friend told me his Cannondale was a bit playful and since I am his go to guy for bike work 'could ya take a look at it'.

We made an appointment and I set the bike stand out in the back yard and broke out the tools.

While I waited for him I slapped the e-bike up in the rack to give it a slap and tickle, grease the chain and tweak the disc brakes. Still no C'dale so up goes the MadWagon City Bike. Gave it a snugging at the headset and greased the chain...etc,etc,etc.

Still no C'dale, well the Schwinn Prelude hasn't got many miles but it has sat fer a while so its next....

Then the H300 rolls in and twixt so catching up with the retired (lucky SOB) owner I greased and retightened the front axle and chain and still had some sunlight after sending him home to greet his high school kids...late bloomers, retired and now his wife has to earn the college tution...now that's thinkin'
