If mobs weren't bad enough - someone set the LFP on fire yesterday

Going home from work yesterday I came across major fire on the LFP just south of 31st, near the new marina. Some new little rolling hills were created between the skate park and the basketball court south of it in that area. Those hills were covered with straw to protect new grass that had been seeded and it's my guess someone inadvertently (or purposefully), set fire to that straw. I was able to detour west and south to get around where the police and fire department were keeping people out of the area. This morning, riding into work I was able to get a better look at how much of the area was affected. Quite a large swath was burned along with a lot of damage to the lower branches of the trees in that area. For some reason I can't seem to find anything online about the fire.

Jesus. That's crazy. Have you encountered a mob yet?

Probably the "urban youth" set it.

Under the drought conditions we've had for a while, it doesn't take much. Still-hot charcoal is a plausible theory.

Did the dead trees repurposed as colorful "art" survive?

Those are an eye sore!

Definitely eyesores.  Wouldn't mind if those went up in smoke.  ;)

Those trees are to the west and north of the place that got burnt.

If the larger trees are oaks, they may come through just fine, as our native oak species are adapted to survive fire.

Since the burn occurred I've had ample time to look at the trees in that area and it's not good. Several of the smaller trees in that area had their foliage completely crisped. I wonder if those smaller trees will still survive through the year. Several of the larger trees have severe scorching on the lower branches, however some of it goes pretty high up - even as high as 20 feet off the ground. Either the flames got really high or the heat from the flames really toasted those trees. At any rate I find the whole thing very dismaying. Every weekend hundreds of people descend on that area around the beach at 31st to have their barbecues and every time the next morning the place looks like a shithole with all the trash strewn around everywhere. Literally brings to mind the phrase, "Don't shit where you eat." And I find it highly likely that it was some jackass who tipped out their grill or tossed a cigarette or something.
