I rode today and I saw a bobcat. I don't have any pics of it, but it was pretty darn cool.

Found some great installations on my way home today.

where?

I rode today, got at flat at keeler and Milwaukee.  There was no traffic at all at 7:35, usually its ugly.  I hopped the bus, waited for the Bike Lane to open, and I was on my way soon enough.  Thank you for opening at 8am!

Doored!
I was having the loveliest of rides going south on Halsted at Randolph in the bike lane, when a DOOR brought it to an abrupt end. I was riding in the door zone (at about 12 mph) to allow a faster cyclist to pass if he wished, and suddenly there was a wide open door immediately in front of my front tire. Window was down and I passed cleanly over the door and hit the pavement with a roll. Totally uninjured, not even a scratch to nurse or a bruise to massage. Bike followed over the door after me with a little flip, and it seems similarly unharmed, except for how totally mangled the bar tape is. I got up immediately, picked up my bike, and gestured the driver (who was already getting out of the car to check on me) over to the sidewalk. He and his companion, both 23 year old guys in a beat up Suburu, did seem genuinely concerned with with my well being, and totally in shock over the whole thing. I examined the bike and told them that while the frame, GPS, and front/rear racks all looked fine, the bar tape had been nearly half removed by the impact with the door and damage to the fork was possible. I snapped a pic of his plate, told him how much the fine was likely to be for dooring if I called it in, and we stood around staring at space for a few minutes. He seemed to want to stand there all day, but I finally asked him if he wanted to toss me 40 bucks to replace the bar tape and cover possible damage to the fork, or talk to the police and possibly deal with a large fine. He emptied his pockets producing twenty-five dollars. I said, Okay that's it, next time look first. I walked my bike away to refix it's panniers, and that was that.
Anyway, given almost zero damage to myself and my Cross Check, I can't really complain. I won't be riding in the door zone anymore, I didn't realize how fast it could happen.

Daniel, so glad you survived!

I met a guy on Tuesday near Chicago and milwaukee, we rode up to Jeff park where we both live.  Yesterday I saw him in the same place, and asked if he wanted to ride up there again, I'd give him plenty of space.  We decided to take Elston, trying not to fight the wind.  I was about 15 ft behind him coming up to Fullerton passing about 30 cars waiting for the red, when a car going south took a left into a lot and nailed him, right in front of me!  My new biking buddy!!

He was unharmed as well, besides a bent rear wheel.  The key he said was lift up your legs!  Wise idea or he could of had some serious injury. The lady was visually upset, and drove him north to Jeff park so he could take of picking up his kids, etc.  I had adrenaline running through my system the rest of the night.  I don't know the guys name, but I hope he got home in time, and that we can ride again when the temps get a lil lower.

Between this and my flat yesterday, it was the most interesting commuting day so far.

Sure was hot today, wasn't it?

That's awfully generous of you. I would have filed a police report if only to make sure the statistic was recorded and to hedge against ANY damage to me or my bike that required funds to fix.

Oh yeah, for whatever reason, I had ZERO energy riding into work this morning. I had to dog it @ 13.5 mph the entire time. I'm not sure if it's from the heat, lack of sleep or whatever.
