Holy bitshalls was I just nearly hit by a squad car on the Lakefront Trail?!

I'd really, really like to think that I wasn't, it just may have seemed that way to me perhaps...

What's the context?

CPD sends cars on the LFT on occasion probably to check out some of the more remote areas and make sure things are cool.  Where the lights on the squad car off or something similar?

I dodged a garbage truck and a handful of vans and pickups this morning that are doing maintenance on fields along the path, but no one ever drives particularly fast - even cruisers - most of the time.

I encountered a UPS truck the other day. Not sure, but it seemed likely the driver was confused.

Jennifer I think this must be the case.   Those big cruisers coming down the LFP are formidable, and scary if you don't expect them.  When I see them there, I usually shout to "get off the Path!"  There are plenty of parallel roads they could use to get where they wish, tho that might require they get out of their comfortable car and actually WALK a few yards to conduct their business.

To be honest, on the south side of the LFT that's not true.  There are portions of the LFT that are isolated from surface roads by LSD and where it would take a mile or more of walking to get to the LFT.

Each district has a "parks car" assigned to patrol parks in the district. If you have problems with CPD cars driving in an irresponsible way on the LFT, you may want to note the beat # on top of the light bar (black plastic tag with white numbers) and report it to the appropriate district's police station.  You may get a response.  You may not, but if enough people complain, perhaps they'll get the message.

FYI - to identify the district check out the first digit or two of the beat #.  133 = district 1, beat 33.  2208 = district 22, beat 08.  If it's a number that starts with 47, that's a special assignment, and you can't use the # to identify the district from the tag.  To find station info (or identify district if you're not sure), go here.

I can only guess that, if there were 3 squad cars at street speed, they must have been pursuing or searching for someone.  Thanks for clarifying what happened.
