Has anyone heard of Clincher Rims?

I going to begin building a new wheel set for my bike and a came across a great deal on a pair of deep v Clincher Rims, similar to B43's or H+Son, but I have never heard of the brand Clincher. Does anyone have an opinion on the quaility of these rims? Thanks!

I've never heard of the brand name Clincher and a quick Google didn't return anything, but it is a type of tire and rim, just like tubulars are a type of tire and rim. Clinchers are what most people ride. Generally speaking only competitive racers use tubulars. See Sheldon Brown for the usual in-depth explanation

The rim is probably a Velocity Deep V. Clincher is the style of rim.

I just found out the brand of wheels that I am looking at are eighth inch brand.
Any opinions on this wheel?

there are two types of road (racing) tires : (doing this from memory so usual disclaimers apply)

1) Clinchers (traditional tire/rim/tube setup)
2) "sew-ups" - this is old-school, expensive and high maintenence. but the retro dudes love it.
It's basically a tire/tube all in one that you (literally) 'glue' to the rim. IIRC they run circa 160-180
(?) psi. vs 120 psi for 700 X 23 traditional (Clincher) race wheels/tires.

so in a nutshell....clincher is really a meaningless/redundant word.
It's like saying "... a 1974 Plymouth Duster (car) rear quarter-panel with spoiler" ;-)

Just make sure its the the right hub spacing for the space between your drop outs. If its a steel frame you should be ok but some times the old school convertions come across problems with newer wheel sets. you might even have to mess with the bottom bracket for the right chain alignment. the julian is a nice wheel for the price, but be aware that the deep rim means it's going to be heavy

As I recall, Clincher was a brand name in the '70's, they were 90 psi, a traditional tube tire.
That was the first tire that could rival sew-ups in that psi range. Everyone loved them, and switched
from sew ups.
