The issue is not whether anyone here "struggles with common sense approaches to problems", the issue is that a company attached a sign to a piece of public infrastructure put there for cyclists, probably against ordinance, and did so with no apparent forethought. It only takes a click to see that the sign wasn't on the ground - and that it could have interfered with locking to the rack, particularly if another bike was already locked there.
That kind of thoughtless, bad behavior makes people feel minimized, and feeling minimized leads to feeling grouchy. While everyone is free to express their own opinions here, implying that people who react negatively to bad behavior are "bafoon[s]" [sic] isn't terribly thoughtful either.

I saw the photos of the sign attached at Starbucks, and it was on the ground? How could it really stop anyone from locking up a bike in the rack? Unless someone really struggles with common sense approaches to problems in life, or they are just a complete bafoon? Just saying, if thats the worst thing that happens in the day, someone needs to stay in bed, or find real issues in the world to complain about.
Permalink Reply by h' 1.0 on November 18, 2012 at 3:20am The implication being anyone concerned about something like this simply "has nothing better to do?"
With no exceptions, the people I know who have a well-developed enough sense of civic duty and stewardship for their surroundings to care about something like the placement of these signs are also people who have a lot to do, and accomplish a lot.
What I don't quite get is the people who have nothing better to do ridicule the folks that take the time to try to improve the world around them. What's the point? What does that accomplish? Serious waste of time IMO.

An amusing and prompt response - bravo!

"Dear Cyclist,
At 1-800-GOT-JUNK? we employ magical Sign Fairies who are usually discerning about placement. Our new class of Sign Fairies that we are currently training is a bit over zealous with their sign placement. They actually escaped from their cage last week and it’s clear that one of them has visited your Starbucks bike rack in Chicago.
We acknowledge that this sign placement was inconvenient. Please accept this email as a sincere apology from our corporate head office and our local franchise. We dispatched a team to remove it this morning; it is gone now.
Sincerely,
1-800-GOT-JUNK?"

And if you do not have a fully complete Garbage Sale permit.... But private companies... they let them coast.

Doesn't anyone take their business seriously anymore?

Permalink Reply by Anne Alt on November 23, 2012 at 1:21pm Thank you. We're in St. Barnabas territory.
Plenty of signs around here, but none of them are on bike racks.
