The Chainlink

Saturday, I plan to do Lee Diamond's east & West Garfield park neighborhood ride. My question is, which street (Jackson or Madison) is better and safer to go west to Central Park, from Damen.  my backup plan is to ride from Humbolt Park to garfield park. thanks in advance.

  thanks previously,for suggestion of going to Columbus Park from the west, for lee Diamond's Austin neigborhood ride.

I rode back east from the Tour of Austin last weekend on Madison and long stretches of it (about Cicero to Pulaski?) were in the midst of substantial road construction-like closed to through traffic substantial. I've never taken Jackson, but Oak Park commuters had suggestions on this thread. I'm a bit north of you and I like Fulton west to the park.

thanks Kevin, I might use Fulton, I know on weekdays there is a lot trucks.

I am actually from Andersonville, just use Humbolt Park as a reference. thx again

Second Fulton.

Fulton should be pretty quiet. If you come from Humboldt, going south on Central Park is pretty good.

Well, I took Central park today to garfield from Humbolt park, everything work out good. thanks for all the suggestion, next going to that area, I will try fulton.

Nice! How'd you like Central Park?

Central Park and Homan are both decent N/S routes, with Homan being my preference.

Both are at their worst (re: potential for problems with street violence) further south than you need to travel.

Madison can be very dangerous. Especially around the shopping mall at Pulaski.

Alex Z;

  Central Park was very good, traffic was lite, I was on Franklin  from Sacramento to Central Park, i like the bike lanes on Franklin, could be cleaned up a little, no traffic.

afterwards, I took Central Park to Franklin, then took Kedzie  north  to get back to Humboltd Park, all was well.

Agreed, the Franklin bike lanes are way cool.
