Permalink Reply by James Kelly on January 8, 2012 at 3:34pm I use a Topeak dual touch and am very happy with it. It's a friction mounted single pole design which is nice because it requires a very minimal amount of floor space (vs. a large base). The bad thing about it, though, is you cannot use it if you have a drop-ceiling or in a vibration-prone environment. It comes with hooks for two bikes, but if you have a tall enough ceiling you can get another hook for a third.
You should be able to get it through Roscoe Village Bikes - they use them in their showroom.
Permalink Reply by James BlackHeron on January 8, 2012 at 3:43pm This Rolling Rack is on sale for $40 right now (normally $50) and Harbor Freight has stores in the burbs both SE and NW of here a short drive.
I have one and it is absolutely is great. I've got 4 bikes and a unicycle on mine with room for yet more bikes. Technically you can get 6 bikes on it but it's a PITA to get the inner bikes out because you can't just pull off all 3 from one side without it falling over.
But the nice thing is you can push it up into a corner as it is on big rolly wheels. You can pull it away from a wall/corner and spin it around in place to get to the far side of the rack and then push it back up against the wall out of the way again.
Greatest thing in the world. I'm thinking of buying another for my garage for my project bikes as well as the one I have in my living room for my everyday-rider personal bikes.
The thing has basically a 4' x 4' footprint and it can be pushed up against the wall or even a corner so it mostly disappears.
Permalink Reply by Kevin C on January 8, 2012 at 4:00pm I've had an Ultimate Velo Cache for about 20 years. Free standing. Very stable. Holds 4 bikes with the expansion kit. Adjustable to hold bikes with straight or sloping top tubes. If I didn't already have it, I'd get another. Looks like this:

Permalink Reply by Robert on January 8, 2012 at 5:14pm Thanks James, this exactly what I needed for the basement!
I just bought one and I'm excited to see it arrive. The $7 flat rate for shipping is great for me because it would take that much gas to get out there, and there is a coupon code WINTER10 that will get you 10% off, if anyone else is interested.

Permalink Reply by Tony Adams 6.6 mi on January 8, 2012 at 5:43pm Yes - That looks pretty brilliant.
I have one of the two stacked up horizontally racks such as the one Sam S is selling. It is nice to get a bike up in the air and make room for another bike under it, but I can't see that there is anything to be gained by flying the lower bike. Currently I'm using it in a space with some other storage underneath the top bike. At a previous house, I used it to store one bike in the top position, but found it simpler to just lean a second bike under the higher bike rather than futzing with trying to hang a second bike.
