Gene, that is some incredible footage.  Part of the coolness is that, essentially, bicycles reached their modern form a long time ago and have just been refined ever since.  There are no gears on those bikes, but their wheels look like about 24", 1.25 to 1.50 inches to me.  Just guessing.  But certainly, as with all bikes for a long time, they are immediately recognizable.  I could go on a long time about this, but I would mention that baseball, in my opinion, is the greatest American game in some part because it would also be recognizable, at least, to people of that era.  Cy Young, anyone?
