Lime Bikes are already in Seattle and Washington, D.C.

“We look at LimeBike not just as a bike share but as an urban mobility solution that’s looking to move people around in more efficient manners,” said Jason Wilde, regional general manager for the bike-sharing program now in nearly 50 communities across the nation. “It complements existing transportation infrastructure that you guys have within the city. We’re looking at connecting and just being another part of the overall transportation puzzle.”

Clusters of the bright, lime bikes — bright, so the curious can spot them and lime to connote sustainable green energy — will appear first in the densest part of Rockford and then spread to several other communities including Loves Park and Machesney Park.

Using an app, riders will pay $1 to unlock and ride a bike for 30 minutes. Bikes are single-, three- and eight-speed models. Payment plans can reduce the price even more.
