Both my wife and I have called them a bunch of times over the past couple weeks (and left messages), because she has her eye on a particular Public bike and they seem to carry them. No response, no one ever answers during business hours or calls back. Anyone know what's up? I may have to make a trip over there just to see if anyone's alive.

They looked to still have bikes in the window when I went by last week. Not sure if they're open though. Hmmm.

Permalink Reply by Brendan on March 25, 2012 at 8:32am I have been leaving calling and emailing for the last two weeks as well. I stopped by last Sunday and they were not open but had no note explaining why. I'm getting concerned because I need parts for my bike that only Velorbis makes. That 25 year warranty is less helpful when no one answers the phone.
Permalink Reply by Copenhagen Cyclery on March 25, 2012 at 5:04pm Yup, we're open, but for the time being "by appointment only". Manager Phil has left for a job opportunity with Abus locks. We're retooling a bit in the interim with some exciting developments so we can serve better in the future. Until then, it's just me trying to manage the shop and a few other businesses. It's best to reach us and schedule a appointment via e-mail at info@copenhagencyclery.com. Please bear with us.

After two unanswered voicemails and an unanswered email, I reached out to Velorbis directly for help. I don't know how else I could have tried to make an appointment.

Permalink Reply by anthony nicholson on March 28, 2012 at 12:35pm OK; I emailed you (again) on Sunday when I saw your post, and still haven't received a reply (it's Wednesday as I write this). Can you please just ping us back about setting up an appointment? We're really close to just buying this bike online from Public at this point (b/c you are the only dealer in Chicago listed on their webpage, and it's been weeks that I've been trying to get something set up). I'd rather support a local business obviously but this is kinda nuts.

Permalink Reply by SlyRed on March 28, 2012 at 12:41pm Who the hell is so flush with cash that they can maintain a storefront and never care if they actually sell things? I've had this happen more than once with Chicago bike related businesses. WTF?
Permalink Reply by h' 1.0 on March 28, 2012 at 6:46pm People that are overwhelmed and/or dealing with an unexpected personal life crisis that's causing their business plans to suffer. It's frikken' hard to start and run a small business, and we need more bike shops of all kinds in this city, so big-picture-wise it might be good to tone down the harsh critique.
