A possible cycling fatality that Chicagoland blogs may have missed.

Stanislaw M. Lukaszyk, 57, of Hickory Hills was killed by the driver of a vehicle on Tuesday evening around 6:50pm. The crash occurred in the nearby Chicagoland south suburban village of Bridgeview on the 87th st. bridge between Oketo Ave. (7400 w.) and 78th Ave.

"It has not been determined if the victim was a pedestrian or a cyclist while he was on the 87th st bridge at the time of the crash."

The police report and the news report does not mention the presence of a bicycle at the scene of the crash.

There is a ped/path sidewalk on the north side of the bridge (pic above) which would be the safest way to cross because of the limited sharrow's space on the 87th bridge's roadway. But the sidewalk may have been made hazardous because of the recent snowstorm and the victim may have been hit in the roadway.

A village spokesman said that the driver was taken into custody. No further details were released on this incident.
