How many bikes are stolen in Chicago every year?

I don’t know.

Nor does the Chicago Police Department. They don’t keep track of individual bike thefts, which are categorized with all other larcenies. Even if they wanted to give you a number, they wouldn’t have one to give. Full article here.

The only pseudo good thing about living so far north in Chicago is there isn't a lot of biking done up here and not a lot of people who lock their bikes up outside.  Mine all come indoors, I'd rather carry it into my apartment than not.

When I do venture into the city I keep the bike in view with a u-lock and usually 2-3 more locks.  If they are taking my bike they are going to have to work for it and pray I don't catch them trying to take it.
