The Chainlink

Our little dude is about to be 5 months and with the weather warming up, I am looking forward to taking him for a bike ride. From my research so far, looks like it is recommended to wait until he is 1 year old. Not what I was hoping for. Anyone have any experience biking with a baby under 1?

Does anyone know the law on biking and baby wearing (perhaps in a back-carry)?

If your kid can't support his own head, mostly likely you're going to be limited to carrying him in a secured car seat in trailer or bakfiet.

There is an active Chicago Kidical Mass group on Facebook were you might get more traction on a question like this.

I asked this same question last year: http://www.thechainlink.org/forum/topics/how-long-before-i-can-take...

Best answer - hold off until at least 1 year: http://www.healthychildren.org/English/safety-prevention/at-play/Pa...

If you can secure his car seat to something, that's probably fine, otherwise just hold on a bit. Not worth potential neck damage.

Word.

We started at 9 months in a regular bike seat, for kids #1 and #2.  For #3 we went ahead and got a box-type cargo bike (a Madsen) and bolted a car seat into it.

I agree you should try the Chicago Kidical Mass Facebook group for more input!

Definitely one year.  Which is awesome because I'll be able to haul 2 this summer with the little guy being big enough!

Neck support is the real issue.

My older child was 9 months and the younger was 5 months when we started biking with them. But we had special setups beyond just a child seat.
