The Chainlink

I have not ridden my commuter in about a week. I forgot that it had been low in pressure the last time I rode it. I topped it off that time and told myself I needed to change the tube. When I got home that day I had not lost much pressure so I forgot about it. Today, the first day of bike week, it was flat. I pumped it up and decided to ride in figuring I would change the tube at lunch or after work.

On the way in I spotted On The Route's commuter stop on Lincoln Ave. just past their shop. They could not have been nicer putting in a new tube and refusing my offer to pay for it. The mechanic cleaned and lubed my chain. I drank some coffee they provided and watched the riders go by while shop workers urged them to stop for some air, lube, coffee, bananas, good cheer etc.  The tire us usable but worn. I will make sure to stop in at On the Route soon and buy the replacement tire from them.

Thanks for the oasis of happiness and  helpfulness.  Thanks for spreading good bike week karma.

 (we need some actual smilies I think...)

I stopped at the oasis on Wells staffed by Village Cycle Center. While I didn't need anything, there was coffee, and a couple of the VCC folks complimented me on my RRB (which I chose to ride at the last minute because my legs were tired and it has that very comfy Brooks saddle).

If only we had pit stops everyday:))  I love seeing them and helping out at them.  Cyclists are so pleasantly surprised when you cheer them on, and say, "FREE coffee and goodies for cyclists!"
