Bike Stolen
Some jerk stole my 2008 Cannondale CAAD 9 6 off of the back of my car last night during the festival outside of the Hideout.
It's a white, 56cm frame with Armadillo tires and a bunch of slots for gadgetry on the red handlebars. Shimano pedals/gears/accessories.
It has locking spokes; I have the magic key thingee.
$100 reward for the person who finds it/ returns it to me.
Yes it was locked, apparently not well.

My heart goes out to you I have 2009 cad 9 5 and am constantly worried about its saftery. Especially right now as my beater bike is in need of a new tire.

I was reassured today that there's almost no chance it'll show up - if someone is willing to saw through a U-lock they're not gonna share, except with someone who's not me. Suffice to say I'm hoping homeowner's is going to cover it, else it's back to old faithful... and maybe a new, stripped down fixie.

Yeah, you just have to make sure you have a u-lock with a flat key. Most reputable manufacturers switched a few years ago when Kryptonite had their meltdown over a lock that could be just about instantly opened with a bic pen.

While every home owners insurance is different, ours only covers bikes that are stolen from a locked area on our property (which makes it burglary, I believe). When I inquired to add our bikes to the insurance, I was quoted a premium that amounted to 20% of the replacement cost of the bikes. I didn't think it was worth it.

Our deductible is $1K... my bike, with gadgetry, perhaps $1500-1700. Sigh.

I hate to add that homeowner's and renter's insurance policies are increasingly becoming "disaster policies." If the place burns down, blows up, or disappears into a sink hole, by all means make the claim. If you have a couple thousand dollars worth of "stuff" stolen, I'd be very careful about even letting the insurance company/agent know about it. Sadly, people who dutifully make their premium payments and never make a claim are "preferred" customers. Everyone else is high risk, subject to cancellation or premium increases. Insurance companies may have a bad quarter or two, but they always make money whether through premiums or investment returns. Most claims simply aren't worth it to the policyholder.
