From the NWS
A POWERFUL WINTER STORM WILL AFFECT THE REGION THURSDAY INTO THURSDAY NIGHT BRINGING WET SNOW AND VERY STRONG WINDS. RAIN WILL CHANGE TO WET SNOW FROM WEST TO EAST LATE THURSDAY MORNING THROUGH THURSDAY EVENING...WITH SNOW CONTINUING INTO THURSDAY EVENING. SNOW COULD FALL HEAVILY AT TIMES WITH ACCUMULATIONS EXPECTED...ESPECIALLY NORTH OF INTERSTATE 80. IN ADDITION...VERY STRONG WINDS WILL LIKELY GUST TO OVER 50 MPH AT TIMES VERY LATE THURSDAY AFTERNOON INTO THURSDAY EVENING.
Most concerning is the 50 MPH winds blowing snow everywhere and reducing visibility.

I seem to have completely spaced out about tomorrow being my office's last day this year. That means we'll close around two tomorrow, so it'll be (sort of) light on my way home. Plus, free Friday!

Permalink Reply by Duane Waller on December 19, 2012 at 6:57pm Typical Chicago wind; it starts out 15-30MPH out of the Southeast, then changes to South/Southwest, then when the snow starts it whips around and blows from the Northeast at 20-45MPH. Which means WIND IN YOUR FACE.
Luckily, I work from home and have nowhere to go, so I'll be out riding around in the snow just for kicks.
i wouldn't miss it
Permalink Reply by yai danche on December 19, 2012 at 10:07pm my bad weather plan involves taking a bus in the Loop. i always manage to see a few messengers while waiting for the bus and think: damn that could be me! as someone mentioned the wind forecasts are "overblown". i don't want to deal with rain/snow lush, so no thanks!
