The Chainlink

I am looking at a Pake C'Mute for my next build.  Unfortunately, there is not a lot of info on the net about them and they are rarely seen in shops.  If anyone out there owns one and could send me some feedback it would be much appreciated.

I ride one. I had it built at The Bike Lane. I get the impression they do quite a few C'Mutes. 

Mine is a basic commuter setup - 1x8 gearing, rear rack, 28mm tires, riser bars. I've put about 1500 miles on it so far and love it. The wheel base is long enough that I can put panniers on it without heel strike. The ride itself feels great (though I'm occasionally tempted to put wider tires on it. It certainly has the clearance for them). I can't tell you how it is compared to, say, a Crosscheck, but it is nice to have a bike that's a little less common. I also really like that the stickers are on top of the clear-coat and peel off really easily, so there's not branding on the frame. 

Good to hear.  I will have to give the Bike Lane a call.  What size is your C'Mute and does it seem to run big or small?  It seems to have a long headtube for a more upright riding position.

Mine is a 58cm. I can't really tell you if it runs big or small, but I've ridden other 58cm frames, and the Pake feels similarly correct. FWIW, I'm 6' with a large leg/torso ratio. I forgot to mention the more upright position - that is certainly true, and part of what attracted me to the Pake in the first place. I actually left a lot of the steerer tube on, which puts the handlebars nearly level with the saddle and combined with the riser bars, gives a fairly upright posture. 

Ciclo Urbano has built a few, I think they may even have one there right now.  I really like them, a nice frame.

I think that is the size I would get.  I emailed Pake with some info about sizing.  They recommended I go to the 58 if I want to get the saddle and bars level.  I am assuming you can clear the frame with no problem?

 The ETT seems a little long for my liking but I am assuming the headtube length and angle makes up for it.

Thanks Dug.  I will give them a buzz.  For the money it seems like it is hard to beat.  And like David said I like the idea of having something other than a Cross Check (which I already had in the past).

If you're looking for an excellent Cross Check alternative look at the Velo Orange Campeur as well; or any of their frames really.

Can I run the VO single speed as well?  That is a huge selling point for the C'Mute for me.  I love bikes I can do multiple things with.

The Campeur has a vertical drop which I much prefer unless I want to have a single speed but if that is an option you want the Polyvalant has a horizontal drop out but it is a 650b I believe.

The frames they have coming soon, the Camargue and Pass Hunter both have horizontal drops I think.

The other frame I was thinking about was the All City Space Horse.  Anyone have any feedback on that one?  Similar in design to C'Mute but seems to be a better tube set but priced accordingly.

The Space Horse is an awesome bike as well.

I have a Space Horse. I absolutely love it. Its rated for 30lbs in the rear 20lbs in the front. Its a said to have a geometry somewhere between the Surly Crosscheck and the Long Haul Trucker.
