Okay, now more than ever, I strongly believe in this (especially after reading Juan 2-8 Mi's post):

If you don't already have one, GET A VIDEO CAMERA AND MOUNT IT TO YOUR HANDLEBARS OR HELMET WHENEVER YOU RIDE.

1) If nothing else, you can get some really cool footage of your surroundings.

2) You never know when you'll see something interesting/bizarre happen that you want to preserve for posterity.

3) And most importantly, if you ever need evidence!

#3 was almost the case for me this morning on the new "Glenwood Greenway," as it's apparently being called. I came to a complete 100% stop at, I think, Bryn Mawr, and after I pulled out into the intersection, the woman on the eastbound side decided it'd be a dandy idea to do the same. Came within inches of hitting me.

Had she actually hit me, she could have been in some serious trouble thanks to camera footage of me coming to a complete stop and proceeding within the bounds of the law.

You don't even need anything expensive like a GoPro or anything like that. My camera is an Ion Air Pro that I got for maybe $30 on Amazon, via DealMac.com. (A lot of times those deal aggregators come up with some really good stuff.) Not the greatest camera in the world, but the video is very clear (fisheye lens though) and it's a pretty sturdy camera. Only problem is that the threads where the mounting screw goes are made of plastic, so you gotta be careful there.
Photographing drivers - legal?tag:thechainlink.org,2013-01-03:2211490:Topic:6317872013-01-03T03:06:33.472ZAndrew Bednohttps://thechainlink.org/profile/AndrewBedno

But I still regularly hear need for such functionality. People are muddling through using Facebook or Twitter or Tumblr. But I could easily render it with massup.us** so I want to explore the issue.

This is probably contentious, so let's stay focused:

Is it legal? LAWYERS please: No public expectation of privacy versus publishing license plate numbers? You tell me.

Is there already a good place/way to post such photos?

* You can still see what MyBikeLane.com looked like in the internet archives here.

** MassUp.us can automatically post emailed photos with geolocation. It'd work exactly like the abandoned bikes reporting here: http://massup.us/llbb/c
If it's legal and not already well done, I'd add an address like douche@massup.us - just need a better name, and to be sure it's not a terrible idea.

And CONGRATS JULIE!!!!!!

Found - Digital Camera 6/19tag:thechainlink.org,2011-06-30:2211490:Topic:3682972011-06-30T18:03:04.964Zleftoverbaconhttps://thechainlink.org/profile/leftoverbacon

Hi,

A friend of a friend of a friend found a digital camera near Foster & Pulaski on the morning of June 19th.

There were apparently many pictures taken of a large bike ride on the night of the 18th-19th.

Because the person who found the camera isn't in the bike community, I was asked to put the word out.

If you can identify the type of camera, I can arrange to have the camera returned to you.

I've noticed that our friends at the ATA have become quite vocal in support of red light cameras. I wonder if camera-love is widespread among their membership base (in which I'm included). I always ride when I'm not working, but I have to drive on the clock, and I've been nailed twice. Kinda rubs me the wrong way, especially because Chicago seems to have the shortest yellows I've ever seen. Opinions?

Trying to figure out the best way to attach a camera to my helmet.
Did any of you tried it? how were the results? (post them if you can)
