Description

Build your own wheels! Participants learn how to lace spokes into a wheel, apply tension to spokes, and make a wheel round and true. Wheel building theory will also be discussed in class. We will be using the Gerd Schraner method of wheel building. 3 cross spoked wheels in either 32 or 36 hole rims and hubs will be built. Using this method makes a strong, reliable and servicable set of wheels. Week 1 we will lace both front and rear wheels. Week 2 we will tension, round and true both wheels. Rims, hubs and spokes may be ordered and purchased through our sales shop Ciclo Urbano. Select rims, hubs and spokes chosen by the instructor will be on hand and may be purchased by participants, or built up for WTB with no purchase necessary. Specialty hubs and rims can be ordered and are subject to availability but must be specified and placed two weeks before the start of class. Participants should consult with the instructor if planning to supply their own rims, hubs and spokes for the class. Proper spoke calculations must be made to assure proper building of wheels.

Participants must should contact Office Manager, Coralee Montes (coralee@westtownbikes.org) to arrange registration for this class. This class has limited participants per session. Enrollment is secured with payment to the instructor. Recommended donation for participation in this class is $75 for the two sessions. Participants must be available for both classes.
