All proceeds of this evenin'g event will go to benefit the Active Transportation Alliance. The mission of Active Transportation Alliance is to make bicycling, walking and public transit so safe, convenient and fun that we will achieve a significant shift from environmentally harmful, sedentary travel to clean, active travel. They advocate for transportation that encourages and promotes safety, physical activity, health, recreation, social interaction, equity, environmental stewardship and resource conservation. They envision a Chicagoland that is a fun and healthy place to live, work and play.

Active Trans is lucky to have a friend in the band Mako Sica who graciously decided to hold a benefit concert for our organization at the Empty Bottle on December 13th! Come out and enjoy great music, a few drinks, and the joy of supporting better walking, transit and biking in Chicago. Mako Sica will be joined by Mardou, Courtesy and Taphophile. Thanks so much to the bands and our friends at The Empty Bottle for hosting us and we can't wait to see you all there!

MAKO SICA is a Chicago-based group whose name derives from the Native American Lakota words meaning, "bad land." A term that both describes the openness of their sound and is a metaphor for the bulldozed civilization in the tribe's own language. With a previous member of the band Rope (Family Vinyard) on guitar, wordless vocals and Eastern-influenced melodies, they have created their own language nuanced as it is in dynamics. The band has appeared on NPR's World Music-focused show Radio M as well as having releases on Permanent, La Societe Expeditionnaire, Slow Knife and French label BLWBCK. 

MARDOU is a punk rock band out of Cinicinatti, Ohio. They currently hav e a 7" out on Torn Light Records, a cassette on Let's Pretend Records, and an LP coming via Moniker Records. 

TAPHOPHILE is the experimental solo project of Jordan from Moniker Records.
