Join us for this longtime Bike Winter Tradition!
We'll meet up on March 17 at the food court of the Ogilvie Center, 500 W. Madison, at 7:30 am and catch the 8:30 Metra train with our bikes to Harvard, IL. We'll arrive at 10:20, then pedal roughly 75 miles to the Great Dane brewpub downtown Madison, WI, to hang out with local cyclists. A bit of St. Patrick's Day barhopping is a possibility, after which we will crash on couches and floors provided by Madison Bike Winter folks.
Following a hearty brunch Sunday morning, we'll bicycle back to Harvard to catch the 6:35 or 8:35 pm train, arriving at Ogilvie at 8:23 or 10:23 pm.
Since space on Metra is limited to 20 bikes and I need to arrange home stays in Madison, an RSVP is strictly required. But please don't RSVP unless you definitely plan on showing up.

Comment by Lanterne Rouge on March 16, 2012 at 4:40pm I was reading over thread about taking bikes on Metra trains; do I need my own bungee cord for tomorrow?
Comment by David of the North (David606xx) on March 16, 2012 at 10:00am homemade cookies are best, but cliff bars are second best. bring plenty of either, more than you think you'll need--if someone else a blood sugar crash, we'll need to stuff their face with something or wait around for the ambulance. boooooring!
Comment by Lanterne Rouge on March 15, 2012 at 10:02pm Hmm. No rack or panniers, so on my back these things go!
Comment by John Greenfield on March 15, 2012 at 9:13pm Water, flat fix stuff, rain gear, snacks (I usually bring a box of cashews), change of clothes, ground pad and sleeping bag if convenient. Carry 'em in panniers. Don't carry stuff on your back.

Comment by Lanterne Rouge on March 15, 2012 at 8:50pm What are you guys bringing along for the ride? I've got my CO2, spare tube, tire levers..but...how much should I bring along to snack on while riding?
Also, where are you guys storing all of this stuff? Panniers? Bags?
Comment by David of the North (David606xx) on March 15, 2012 at 5:52pm See you there in a bit!
Comment by John Greenfield on March 15, 2012 at 4:15pm We didn't meet up Tuesday, but come by Boulevard Bikes, 2535 N. Kedzie, 6-8 pm tonight (Thursday) to meet me and maybe some of the other riders. I'll be solidifying the route at home tonight.
I'm definitely excited for this ride! Any updates from the meetup on Tuesday? Is this http://g.co/maps/9v4p5 still the planned route?
Comment by John Greenfield on March 14, 2012 at 12:15pm I have accommodations lined up for about 20 of us, the limit for the ride. If possible, please bring a sleeping bag and ground pad. If not, there should be some couches and bedding available.
