Description

We plan on taking the 8:30am train from Chicago that arrives in Crystal Lake at 9:51, though we are picking up the train at other points. I will be picking up the train at Dee Road. Once in Crystal Lake, we will be riding at our usual pace down the Fox River trail to Aurora to ride the BNSF back to Union Station. We are very unlikely to set any speed records.

This ride is not necessarily a beer ride, but keep in mind that Two Brothers is near the end point in Aurora. There is also a place called Emmet's in West Dundee. If the group wants to stop there, who am I to argue?

The trip is about 40 miles. The trains leave Aurora at 4:20 (heh) and 6:20.

I think on Ning, that only the Album owner can add photos to the album, but as the album owner, I can add any photo on the site.

I only took 3 photos, because I'm lame. So if anyone else has any, upload them to the Chainlink and I'll add them to the Album.

Seems like a reasonable kick off the Spring event to me, Morgan!

I "discovered" Foghat as a remnant of Savoy Browm in the early 70's when y'alls were sperm cells. Come by my pad Memorial Day and listen to Foghat on vintage vacuum tube audio.

Comment by 1zt7hr8qm0y90 on March 31, 2013 at 12:53am: Thank you everyone. Next time I hope we don't have to carry our bikes up a steep hill while trying to avoid small trees and vines. I was extremely concerened about my bike at that time dispite what it is, a heavy steel department store bike that has momentum and won't break as easly but, as always, it did the job and I am a fossil. If it was an expensive bike with much lower gears at one point I still would have had to dismount and walk. I'm an old fart that loves to ride and this ride was an adventure. I can't thank you all enough.

I rode the Des Plaines River Trail yesterday and there are parts of the crushed limestone trail that are still soggy. It is hard to mush through that even in low gear and it puts ruts in the trail. I am not familiar with the section of trail that we will be riding and have no idea of its nomenclature. I wiped the winter salt protective coating of petroleum jelly off my chrome fenders, polished every inch of the bike and cleaned and lubricated the chain. The bike is ready but am I ready. To quote the Beatles "it's been a long, cold, lonely winter." This ride came up quick. If I hadn't read the weekly newsletter this morning I would have missed it. YIPPEE!
