Hey Chicago, what's the most carbon neutral and efficient way for you to get around this city? By bicycle, of course.
October 24 is the International Day of Climate Action. There are groups of people all over Chicago and the whole world participating in events for this day. Visit www.350.org for more info on the day.
This Saturday, starting at noon on October 24, we'll ride around Chicago, riding past as many of the other 350 action day events as possible. Bring signs, noise making devices, and as many bike riding friends as you can gather.
We'll meet at Daley Plaza, Dearborn & Washington, at noon on Saturday. Yes, for all of you who ride in the Chicago Critical Mass, this is the same meeting spot. Before we ride, we'll take a picture, which I'll upload onto 350.org after the event to be a part of the visual petitition to the world to get us back under 350 parts per million--the upper limit of safe amounts of carbon dioxide in our atmosphere.
As stated earlier, we'll gather at NOON, and will start the ride shortly after, hopefully by 12:30, or until a formidable group has assembled. We'll ride all over Chicago, first going to the Fisk Coal Power Plant on Cermak, where Greenpeace and the Sierra Club, among other organizations, have organized a protest against this plant, one of the dirtiest coal power plants in America. From there we'll ride on, covering as much of this city as possible, spreading the message behind the International Day of Climate Action.
Bring your bike, signs with phrases alluding to 350 parts per million, music, megaphones, and anything else, but especially make sure to bring all your friends and family. Hope to see you all there!
